Healthy Families: Epilogue

Healthy Families: Epilogue

So this blog series is not the definitive answer on how to obtain and maintain a healthy home. And I am not an expert by any stretch of the imagination. There are many who have greater wisdom on the subject, either through experience or age or by just having more knowledge. My attempt, as frail as it may be, is to just bring your attention to an issue that is not just an issue in modern day society, but it is an issue that has kept the church from having power with God. While not an expert, I can see that the church is not as powerful in making a difference in the world as she needs to be. There seems to be a disconnect between the bride and the groom. This is not the fault of the Groom. The church (or the bride) has a responsibility to be completely connected and in submission to the Groom. This is tantamount in order for their to be an affect on the world.

The church is made of many individual members all working under the direction of Jesus Christ. I submit, however, that the real power in the church comes from individuals who join in union to form the family unit and that unit works together as a witness to the world in showing an alternative to the dysfunction that has unfortunately become the norm. Let’s go back to our graphic:

As time has progressed the stable two-parent household has eroded away to become an exception not the rule. The devil has done a terrible work in modern day society to steal away the most powerful weapon that the church has; that is the stability of two-parent homes working together to promote the gospel of Christ. Some communities have been ravaged by this devilish onslaught to the point that the exception has become greater than the rule. If the church or the bride is ever going to be effective, this trend has to not only stop but more importantly has to be reversed so that ALL communities have the ability to be effective in this great work. No race, no ethnicity, no nationality shall be excluded from doing this great work! If the “wall” is truly to be repaired to God’s glory, ALL hands will have to be at work with no exclusions.

Abraham’s Household

The bible speaks of the patriarch Abraham in this way:

For I know him, that he will command his children and his household after him, and they shall keep the way of the Lord, to do justice and judgement; that the Lord may bring upon Abraham that which he hath spoken of him.

Genesis 18: 19

In this instance, God commended Abraham, not for his faith, but because of how he handled his home. This was such an important quality that God entrusted him to become a great and mighty nation. To God the home was and remains very important. Abraham and Sarah did face many challenges. However, God knew Abraham! He also knew that he would command his children and his household after him that they should keep the way of the Lord.

Herein lies the secret to the home being able to have power with God. Abraham had a relationship with God. He passed down that relationship to his family. He and his family kept “the way of the Lord.” If the church is going to prosper in this day and time, it will have to do it the same way. Fathers and mothers will need to be known of God (relationship). They in turn will need to pass that down to their families. The families will need to keep the way of the Lord. As each family keeps the way of the Lord, the church will go forward rebuilding and restoring the old waste places, such as they did in Nehemiah’s day. And God, in his power, will bless his bride or the church.

A Blessed Home … A Blessed Church

And it came to pass, when all the kings of the Amorites, which were on the side of Jordan westward, and all the kings of the Canaanites which were by the sea, heard that the Lord had dried up the waters of Jordan from before the children of Israel, until we were passed over, that their hearts melted, neither was there spirit in them any more, because of the children of Israel.

Joshua 5: 1

Just as God blessed his people in Joshua’s day, He remains ready and willing to do the same today. The children of Israel met God’s conditions, in that day and there was so much power that the hearts of the enemy kings melted. Just think of what He could do today if our homes kept the way of the Lord!
