Lively Stones

Lively Stones

Ye also, as lively stones, are built up a spiritual house, an holy priesthood, to offer up spiritual sacrifices, acceptable to God by Jesus Christ.

1 Peter 2: 5

What an interesting choice of words that Peter uses in talking about the people of God; lively stones. Jesus said in Matthew 3: 9:

And think not to say within yourselves, We have Abraham to our father: for I say unto you that God is able of these stones to raise up children unto Abraham.

What is a stone? The Collins English Dictionary says:

the hard, solid, nonmetallic mineral matter of which rock is composed.

When Peter spoke of the people of God as being lively stones, we have to believe he was referencing what Jesus said about being able to take stones and raise them up children unto Abraham. The Bible refers to man’s origin as being made from the dust of the earth. Paul also references us as having the treasure of God in earthen vessels. The sobering thought is that we are nothing without God. We are stones in which it takes the Spirit of God to make alive by breathing life into us. When we accept this fact and commit that our very being needs to be committed to God in order to have life, we become lively stones. Peter goes on to say that we are not just lively stones but, together, we build up a spiritual house for God to dwell. We further are a royal priesthood with the main purpose to offer up spiritual sacrifices that are acceptable to God by Jesus Christ. This is something to be excited about as long as we commit ourselves and our ways to Him that is able to make us alive. Paul said in 2 Corinthians 5: 17:

Therefore if any man be in Christ, he is a new creature (or creation): old things are passed away; behold, all things are become new.

If you are reading this blog and have experienced this new life, please share what God has done for you in the comment section. Other’s will benefit from hearing your story. Together, we can help build one another up to form that spiritual house. Do not feel that you have to give your last name. However, please share your first name and where you are from along with your story or testimony. Remember, during Nehemiah’s day, they rebuilt the wall with stones. In our day, you as a lively stone of God, have the ability to be used to “rebuild” God’s kingdom. Therefore, please share with others…
